This Slaughter Mountain fire agate gemstone weighs 8.0 carats and measures 13.18 mm by 12.07 mm by 6.40 mm. It has a bull's eye cut that showcases a reddish/orange outer ring with a golden green center display. The fire display refracts well in most good light conditions, however as with many fire agates it will appear darker in low lighting conditions (see low light photo). It is a dome shaped, flat bottomed, gemstone.

This stone originates from Slaughter Mountain, Arizona, an area celebrated for fire agate gemstones displaying vivid color ranges such as bright reds, oranges, deep greens, purples, and rare blues. The deposit lies within the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation where mining rights are exclusively held by tribal members.

The photos shown represent the actual stone you will receive, photographed both outdoors in natural sunlight and indoors under full spectrum artificial light. The stone is displayed dry under good lighting conditions for optimal visual display. The colors within fire agates arise from the Schiller effect, like what is seen in mother-of-pearl and opals. This phenomenon results from alternating layers of silica and iron oxide that diffract light, creating the interference patterns known as fire. Optimal lighting enhances this color play while in dimmer conditions the colors will be less vivid and the stone will appear darker with a brownish hue.
