This Slaughter Mountain fire agate rough specimen measures 4-1/2 x 2-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches and weighs 14.2 ounces (403.4 grams). It features multiple visible fire agate pockets, a distinct botryoidal chalcedony structure, rose-colored quartz crystals, and a larger section of lightly opalized quartz. Illustrating the fire agate formation process, it shows how silica and iron oxide rich hot water fills rock fractures to create the characteristic grape like growths. Several filled seams are present, and the flat rhyolite base provides a stable display, making it an excellent piece for collectors.
This fire agate rough specimen comes from Slaughter Mountain, Arizona, a region renowned for fire agates exhibiting vivid color variations, including bright reds, oranges, deep greens, purples, and blues. The mineral deposit is situated within the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, where mining rights are exclusively reserved for tribal members.
